What is Included?

This resource helps students understand what they are working on now, what should happen next and what evidence they still need to produce. Teachers can use the checklists during project introductions, individual tutorials, progress reviews and independent working sessions.

The resource includes:

  • Staged checklists for managing extended Art & Design projects
  • Evidence prompts linked to practical development and reflection
  • A clear Now / Next / Later lesson-planning structure
  • Space for recording completed work and immediate priorities
  • Adaptable support for tutorials, reviews and independent study
  • Print-ready PDF and editable Word versions

How to Use the Chunked Project Checklists

Introduce the checklist at the beginning of a project and revisit it regularly rather than treating it as a one-off planning activity. Help students identify a manageable current task, a realistic next step and any evidence that still needs to be developed or recorded.

  • Use the staged checklist when introducing a new project or assignment.
  • Ask students to identify their current position within the project.
  • Complete the Now / Next / Later planner during tutorials or lesson reviews.
  • Link practical tasks to the evidence required in sketchbooks and portfolios.
  • Encourage students to update priorities as their ideas and work develop.
  • Gradually transfer responsibility for planning and monitoring to the student.

Suitable for GCSE and A Level Art & Design

The checklists can support Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Communication students across different examination boards. Teachers can adapt the editable Word version to reflect particular project structures, deadlines, assessment objectives and individual support needs.
