This Educational Disclaimer explains the nature and limitations of the educational information and portfolio-feedback services provided by Portfolio to A Star.
Please read this disclaimer alongside our Terms and Conditions. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits any statutory consumer right or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
1. Independent educational service – Educational Disclaimer
Portfolio to A Star is an independent educational guidance and portfolio-feedback service operated by Ian Bradbury trading as Portfolio to A Star.
Portfolio to A Star is not a school, college, examination centre, awarding organisation or government education body.
It is not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, Eduqas, CCEA or any other examination board unless expressly stated otherwise.
Any examination-board names, qualifications and trademarks mentioned on this website remain the property of their respective owners and are used only for identification and educational discussion.
2. General educational information
The free information published on this website is provided for general educational guidance. It is intended to help students understand common Art & Design processes, assessment objectives, portfolio development and study practices.
It does not replace:
- Teaching from a qualified teacher
- Instructions issued by a school or college
- An official examination specification
- Coursework authentication requirements
- Advice from an examination officer or awarding organisation
Students should always follow the current instructions supplied by their teacher, school, examination centre and relevant awarding organisation.
3. Specifications and assessment requirements may change
Examination specifications, assessment criteria, administrative rules and guidance may be revised.
Although reasonable care is taken when preparing and updating website content, Portfolio to A Star cannot guarantee that every page will always reflect the latest requirement for every examination board, qualification, centre or assessment series.
Students and customers should verify important requirements using the current official specification and guidance published by the relevant awarding organisation.
4. Portfolio feedback
Paid portfolio feedback is an independent professional educational opinion based solely on the files and information supplied for review.
The service consists of one written feedback report or completed feedback proforma delivered by email, according to the service purchased.
Unless separately agreed in writing, it does not include:
- An official assessment or examination-board mark
- A predicted or guaranteed grade
- Live teaching, meetings or tutorials
- Ongoing supervision or mentoring
- Reassessment or revisions
- Contact with a student’s school, teacher or examination board
5. No guaranteed grade or result
No grade, mark, award, university offer or other educational outcome is promised or guaranteed.
Final outcomes may depend on matters outside our control, including:
- The quality and completeness of the student’s final submission
- Work completed after feedback has been delivered
- Whether the student follows or understands the feedback
- Supervised or controlled-assessment performance
- Teacher and centre assessment decisions
- Authentication of the student’s work
- Internal standardisation and external moderation
- The final decision of the awarding organisation
A later difference of opinion between Portfolio to A Star and a teacher, examiner, moderator or awarding organisation does not by itself establish that the feedback service was provided without reasonable care and skill.
6. The student remains responsible for their work
Students remain responsible for making their own creative decisions and producing their own authentic work.
Feedback should be used as guidance for reflection and development. It should not be copied mechanically or presented as though wording or creative work supplied by another person was produced independently by the student.
Students must follow all applicable rules concerning:
- Authenticity and independent work
- Teacher assistance
- Use of sources and references
- Copyright and attribution
- Use of artificial intelligence
- Controlled or supervised assessment
- Coursework declarations
If uncertain, students should ask their teacher or examination centre what assistance is permitted.
7. Exemplar images and examples
Images, sample pages, mock-ups, checklists and hypothetical examples are provided to illustrate educational principles.
They should not be treated as official examination-board exemplars or as templates that guarantee a particular mark or grade.
Students should not directly copy example artwork, layouts, annotations or written responses. Examples should be used to understand approaches and generate original, personal work.
8. Information supplied by customers
The usefulness and accuracy of portfolio feedback depend on the quality and completeness of the material supplied.
Educational Disclaimer – Portfolio to A Star is not responsible for limitations caused by:
- Missing pages or incomplete projects
- Unclear, low-resolution or unreadable images
- Incorrect course or examination-board information
- Work not disclosed or submitted for review
- Changes made after the review
