AO1-AO4 Evidence Tracker for Art and Design

Track AO1-AO4 Evidence Clearly

AO1-AO4 Evidence Tracker is a free classroom resource designed to help GCSE and A Level Art & Design teachers and students locate evidence across all four assessment objectives. Individual and whole-class sheets make it easy to identify secure, developing or missing evidence, record page or file locations and agree the next action.

What is Included?

This resource helps teachers and students identify where evidence for AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4 appears. Use the individual sheets for focused reviews and the whole-class overviews to locate gaps, prioritise teaching and agree clear next actions.

The resource includes:

  • Individual student AO1-AO4 evidence tracker
  • Whole-class monitoring overview
  • Secure, Developing and Missing indicators
  • Space for sketchbook page numbers and digital file locations
  • Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Communication versions
  • Colour and printer-friendly greyscale sheets in PDF and editable Word formats

How to Use the AO1-AO4 Evidence Tracker

Review selected work at meaningful points in a project. Locate the evidence first, record its exact sketchbook page or digital file location, then use Secure, Developing or Missing to support an evidence-led discussion and agree one manageable next action.

  • Review selected work at meaningful points rather than updating every sheet continuously.
  • Identify the exact sketchbook page, slide, contact sheet, filename or physical outcome.
  • Enter Secure, Developing or Missing only after the relevant evidence has been located.
  • Record the specific evidence gap rather than writing a vague comment such as “more AO2”.
  • Agree one practical, visual or contextual next action that can create or strengthen evidence.
  • Revisit the recorded location and update the tracker only when new evidence is visible.

Suitable for GCSE and A Level Art & Design

The trackers support Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Communication students across different examination boards. Teachers can adapt the editable Word version to match current projects, centre systems, class sizes and the evidence locations used by individual learners.
